Building on the Rock

Building a fellowship upon the Rock that is sustained in unity of faith in the knowledge of Yeshua the Messiah.

Ephesians 4:11-13 Furthermore, he gave some people as emissaries, some as prophets, some as proclaimers of the Good News, and some as shepherds and teachers. Their task is to equip God’s people for the work of service that builds the body of the Messiah, until we all arrive at the unity implied by trusting and knowing the Son of God, at full manhood, at the standard of maturity set by the Messiah’s perfection.

The Plan – participating fellowship

Yeshua said My Father’s House is called a House of prayer, when He emptied the Temple court, referring to what God said through Isaiah “Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer”… This is the plan that God proposed, and He send His only Son so that through Him a new temple could be established, built not by hands but in the Spirit.

When Yeshua said My Father’s House is called a house of prayer. The emphasis was not on the house but the proposed use of the house. Yeshua’s anger was directed at the misuse of the house, not that the house was built in the wrong manner.

If prayer is consistent with participating fellowship, then participating fellowship, or the lack thereof stirred the passion in the heart of Yeshua for our Fathers house.

When God called His house to be a house of prayer He had in mind that we would come unto Him in His house of prayer and in His house of prayer is where He wants to fill us with joy. Mortar and brick can to a certain extend bring glory as a monument in recognition of a person, but as in most chases a dead building as a memorial is a memorial of a dead person. Did not Yeshua said (Mark 12:27 He is God not of the dead, but of the living! You are going far astray!“)

We are called to build a living temple where the bricks are living bodies that presented themselves as a living sacrifice unto a living God. When we come together as a living sacrifices in the name of our Lord and Saviour Yeshua the Messiah to glorify our Father in Heaven we are building a living sanctuary for God. Ephesians 2:21-22 In union with him the whole building is held together, and it is growing into a holy temple in union with the Lord. Yes, in union with him, you yourselves are being built together into a spiritual dwelling- place for God.

“Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer”… God’s plan for His House of Prayer is to make the people joyful as they participate in the fellowship with Him and His Son Yeshua the Messiah. If then God intends to make us and them, the strangers joyful, the building cannot be exclusive but should be open for all that want to come into the fellowship with our Father in Heaven and His anointed Son.

1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are God’s co- workers; you are God’s field, God’s building

The substance – the Foundation of participating fellowship

The foundation is the support upon which we build a house, it is not the foundation as such that keep the house standing through the storm, it is rather the substance upon which the foundation is laid. Yeshua said in Luke 6:48 he is like someone building a house who dug deep and laid the foundation on bedrock. When a flood came, the torrent beat against that house but couldn’t shake it, because it was constructed well. The revelation of Yeshua, as the Son of the Living God, is the basis of our fellowship as in 1 John 1:1-3 The Word, which gives life! He existed from the beginning. We have heard him, we have seen him with our eyes, we have contemplated him, we have touched him with our hands! The life appeared, and we have seen it. We are testifying to it and announcing it to you- eternal life! He was with the Father, and he appeared to us. What we have seen and heard, we are proclaiming to you; so that you too may have fellowship with us. Our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Yeshua the Messiah

Matthew 16:15-18 He said to them, But who do you say I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus answered and said to him, You are blessed, Simon, son of Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father in Heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Hebrews 11:1 Trusting is being confident of what we hope for, convinced about things we do not see.

The rock then, upon which the foundation is laid, is the sure substance, and the rock is Yeshua the anointed Messiah. For in Him and through Him we have hope based on the evidence in the Gospel, of the things not seen. For our whole faith is based upon the revelation that Yeshua is the Son of the living God as Peter said in Matthew 16:18.

When Peter called out to Yeshua to call him so that he can walk on the water, he put his faith not in what he saw, but what he trusted to be true, what he hoped for. (That, if it is Yeshua walking on the water, He would be able to uphold me (Peter) to walk on the water). That was the substance on which Peter based his trust; he placed his hope in what he trusted Yeshua to be capable of doing. The evidence is the fact that he got out of the boat when Yeshua called him, the evidence is not the walking on the water – that is what he hoped for – based upon his belief in what Yeshua can do. The evidence is that he put into action that what he trusted Yeshua to do. This is not out of the flesh, but it comes from the revelation of who Yeshua is, the Son of the living God.

We should not make the same mistake as the disciples made in Mark 6:51-52 He got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. They were completely astounded, for they did not understand about the loaves; on the contrary, their hearts had been made stone. The disciples did not consider Yeshua as the Son of the Living God, they did not allow themselves to become wise as they think about Yeshua, for their hearts were harden.

In doing that what Yeshua called us to do we should not consider our own inability; we should rather consider Yeshua as the Son of Elohim and His ability, as it is written in Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth- it will not return to me unfulfilled; but it will accomplish what I intend, and cause to succeed what I sent it to do“. Yeshua is the Word of God and the writer of Hebrews challenges us to look upon Yeshua. Hebrews 12:1-2 So then, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us, too, put aside every impediment- that is, the sin which easily hampers our forward movement- and keep running with endurance in the contest set before us, looking away to the Initiator and Completer of that trusting, Yeshua…

The Foundation for participating fellowship

When through the confrontation and consideration we have found the Rock, and assured ourselves of the perfectness of the Rock, which is Yeshua. We start by laying the foundation upon the assurance that the Rock is able to carry the weight of the foundation and the building upon it. Before we read the Word of God, or call upon the promises of God, we must be assured that every promise is yes and amen in Yeshua the Messiah as in 2 Corinthians 1:20-22 For however many promises God has made, they all find their “Yes” in connection with him; that is why it is through him that we say the “Amen” when we give glory to God. Moreover, it is God who sets both us and you in firm union with the Messiah; he has anointed us, put his seal on us, and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee for the future.

In acknowledging that when we say amen we affirm that the word spoken is a trustworthy Word, a Word that will surely come to pass, because we are assured upon Who the Word is build, acknowledging the ability of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah to bring it in fulfilment, therefore we must be assured of Him and His ability in order to lay the foundation.

We must know beyond the shadow of doubt that we have within us all the resources of the One who upholds the universe and that no amount of effort can produce the fruit of the spirit, it is a result of growing closer to Elohim, through Yeshua the Messiah. You need a relationship with the giver of joy not the concept of joy.

Now that we agree that we can have participating fellowship, we can once again look at God’s plan when He said ““Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer”…

Building the building

The first foundation that God laid between man and Himself was based upon trust (as the substance) in man’s ability to walk in obedience. Man proved his own inability, although being created just a little lower that God, to bring in fulfilment God’s intended plan for man, to take dominion. Through the generations God have shown to us our error in not trusting Him but always relying upon something or someone else. In Ephesians 2:10 we however read that in Yeshua the Messiah we have been recreated so that we can bring in fulfilment the plan that God had for us from the beginning as expressed in Exodus 25:8 “They are to make me a sanctuary, so that I may live among them.

Being regenerated means that we have acknowledge our own inability as we surrendered our lives, receiving the regenerated live in Yeshua the Messiah, trusting in Him and His ability not in ourselves and our owe inability. When the disciples asked Yeshua what is the work that we should do if we want to do the work of God, in John 6:29 Yeshua answered, “Here’s what the work of God is:to trust in the one he sent. Trusting in Yeshua is the required work that we have been called for, there is however a lot of other work we can do, but none as pleasing as the work of trusting in Yeshua. That is the first work we have been called for – prayer based on trust (building a sanctuary) Hebrews 11:6 And without trusting, it is impossible to be well pleasing to God, because whoever approaches him must trust that he does exist and that he becomes a Rewarder to those who seek him out.

The Building are constructed through Intimacy

When our trusting is combined with intimacy with God, creation is taking place. When we look at the exodus we saw a nation looking upon the wonders of God as He provided in a supernatural way for His people, but yet they started doubting and fall back upon their own feeble plans, building a golden calf to guide then to freedom, a god formed by the very hands that worship it. Likewise, we are quick to fall back upon our own plans, when we have prayed for a while without seeing anything; we start doubting and start planning for ourselves. But if we only knew what is taking place in the unseen, if the Israelites only knew that Moses was waiting upon God who is writing with His own hand, they would not have rebelled against God. The moment we stop trusting in God and His ability, is the moment that we rebel against God and His authority Exodus 32:1 When the people saw that Moshe was taking a long time to come down from the mountain, they gathered around Aharon and said to him, “Get busy; and make us gods to go ahead of us; because this Moshe, the man that brought us up from the land of Egypt- we don’t know what has become of him” God called on Moses to come and received the created work that He wass busy preparing, but while Moses was waiting upon God to bring forth His creation, the people started doubting, and the created work of God were aborted, when Moses destroyed the tablets that was written by God’s own hand.

Likewise when we pray, having intimate fellowship with God, creation is at work, but if we, because we cannot see what God is doing fall back on our own plans we abort the created work that God is preparing, because we started doubting, we rebelled against God and His authority.

Yeshua said John 11:40 “Yeshua said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you keep trusting, you will see the glory of God?” It is in trusting in the continues sense that we will see the Glory of God as He brings in fulfilment that what we trust Him to do.

Consider your Ways

Haggai 1:5-10

Therefore here is what ADONAI- Tzva’ot says:
‘Think about your life!
You sow much but bring in little;
you eat but aren’t satisfied;
you drink but never have enough;
you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm;
and he who works for a living earns wages
that are put in a bag full of holes.’ “
” Here is what ADONAI- Tzva’ot says:’Think about your life! Go up into the hills, get wood, and rebuild the house. I will be pleased with that, and then I will be glorified,’ says ADONAI. ‘You looked for much, but it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?’ asks ADONAI- Tzva’ot. ‘Because my house lies in ruins, while every one of you runs to take care of his own house. This is why the sky above you has withheld the dew, so that there is none, and the land withholds its yield

The mentioned statement in itself is a proclamation to the glory of God, it is credentials fitting to a servant of the LORD, most High, confirming that although we are kings on this earth we have been called to be faithful servants of the one who appointed us as kings and priests. Revelations 1:5-7 and from Yeshua the Messiah, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead and the ruler of the earth’s kings. To him, the one who loves us, who has freed us from our sins at the cost of his blood, who has caused us to be a kingdom, that is, cohanim (priests) for God, his Father- to him be the glory and the rulership forever and ever. Amen

King Hezekiah, became the servant of God, when he considered the ways of his father and the fruit there of. He, like the prodigal son said that he wants to return to his Fathers house-the house of God, even as a servant, but knowing that it is in his Fathers house where they will be secure.

As a king and a servant, he then called on the Levites, the appointed priest by God, to sanctify themselves and the house of the LORD God. Saying unto them “My sons, be not now negligent: for the Lord hath chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that ye should minister unto him, and burn incense.” He called on them to cleanse the house of God of all that defilement (that which hinder them from entering into the holiness of God). His reasons were clear, for he considered the ways of his fathers and the fruit of their ways.

He then re-open the temple of God, and re-established the temple worship as ordained by God. For this he did not consult with men, he called on the Word of God as his guide. For God established and appointed the levites to worship Him.

He then brought the people back to the knowledge of God, as he called on all Israel and Judah to come and celebrate Passover at the temple. The Passover is significant in the reestablishment of worship, for the Passover is the very reason of worship – knowledge of God. God said to Moses that the sign of Him being with them will be – Exodus 3:12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. It was on the mountain that God ordained the temple worship/tabernacle and where God appointed the Levites as priests to worship unto God. The focus of the worship was unto God for what He did – bringing them out of slavery.

The result of re-establishing the temple worship and the subsequent re-initiation of the passover was a revival, where the people broke down the idols. Once the people of Israel were united in the temple, celebrating what God did for them, they were united in destroying the idols that they made. Note that Hezekiah implored the people to submit themselves to God and to repent of (turn from) their sins. This is the same command that Jesus gives us.

After the Passover celebration, the people went throughout Judah and destroyed the vestiges of idol worship. Hezekiah re-instituted not only proper Temple worship, but also the proper organization that David had set up. The priests told Hezekiah that there was plenty to spare because the Lord was blessing the people. Hezekiah commanded storerooms to be built in the Temple to handle the overflow. Hezekiah sought God wholeheartedly and prospered. When the priests took up their position as ordained by God, the people took up their positions in provision for the priests. What is seen is that the priests did not hoard for themselves, they took only what they had need of, the rest were distributed according to the community needs!

Hezekiah’s life can be an inspiration for our own lives:

he considered their ways and the fruit thereof and remembered God.

he started to make right in the sight of God and kept going despite resistance and ridicule,

he aggressively removed the unclean, negative influences from his life and the life of his people

he interceded for the people, asking for the Lord’s pardon,

he was open and focused to spontaneity in worshipping God, and

he contributed generously to God’s work.

The result of his work, returning and trusting in God and in His ability, in heart and in action were clearly seen as the Lord saved them from the Assyrians. When we are prepared to trust our Almighty God and Father as we return to our Father’s House, He is able to do more than what we can think or imagine – Ephesians.3:20-21.

Now to him who by his power working in us is able to do far beyond anything we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the Messianic Community and in the Messiah Yeshua from generation to generation forever. Amen

God appointed for us a covenant through His Son Yeshua the Messiah, a way by which we can return to our Father’s house, as a house of prayer, with confidence.

Hebrew 10:20-23

So, brothers, we have confidence to use the way into the Holiest Place opened by the blood of Yeshua. He inaugurated it for us as a new and living way through the parokhet, by means of his flesh. We also have a great cohen over God’s household. Therefore, let us approach the Holiest Place with a sincere heart, in the full assurance that comes from trusting- with our hearts sprinkled clean from a bad conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us continue holding fast to the hope we acknowledge, without wavering; for the One who made the promise is trustworthy

Walking in partnership

Luke 5:4-5

…. “Put out into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.” Shim’on answered, “We’ve worked hard all night long, Rabbi, and haven’t caught a thing! But if you say so, I’ll let down the nets

There is a call, calling each one of us to do the impossible – to trust in God as we come in partnership with Him. Trusting not on the bases of what we have seen, heard or did, but on the support of His everlasting Word.

When the disciples asked Jesus what is the work they should do in order to please God, the answer was not the expected. We want to do, for in doing we feel a sense of accomplishment. But Jesus said John 6:29 …. “Here’s what the work of God is:to trust in the one he sent!.

Faith in action is not working the work of man, to show the world our faith, it is trusting in God to do what is impossible. Believing in Him as we put our Faith in Him and in His ability. As the Word said in Hebrew 11:6 And without trusting, it is impossible to be well pleasing to God, because whoever approaches him must trust that he does exist and that he becomes a Rewarder to those who seek him out.

Faith in action starts with hearing from God, and then doing accordingly, not based on the knowledge of man, but on the knowledge of God. Ezra consider God, and then placed his trust in who God is, and not in man. Ezra 8:22-23 For I would have been ashamed to ask the king for a detachment of soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies along the road, since we had said to the king, “The hand of our God is on all who seek him, for good; but his power and fury is against all who abandon him.” So we fasted and asked our God for this, and he answered our prayer

Are we prepared to put our trust in God as we humble ourselves, looking to Him and His ability to do what only God can do.

A Watchman approach

Yeshua said in Luke 11:23 Those who are not with me are against me, and those who do not gather with me are scattering.

Warfare is to stand in the gap, watching over and protecting the harvest of the good seed, sown through Yeshua the Messiah, from being corrupted by the enemy, causing division. The weapon of the watchman is the Word of God proclaimed over God’s creation and plans for the people called by His name and the name of His Son Yeshua. The Word of God, is the Sword given by the Spirit of God as written in Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of deliverance; along with the sword given by the Spirit, that is, the Word of God.

It seems that the idea exist that we as followers of Yeshua must use His Sword in defense, but I would like you to consider that it is in fact the most powerful offensive weapon of our warfare. As Paul explained in Ephesians that we need to take up the helmet of deliverance along with the sword given by the Spirit. Bearing in mind that we can only received the Sword given by the Spirit of God, once we received our deliverance in the name of Yeshua the Messiah. Deliverance, that in faith we have been saved, as Peter explained to the new believers in Yeshua in Acts 2:38 Kefa answered them, “Turn from sin, return to God, and each of you be immersed on the authority of Yeshua the Messiah into forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Ruach HaKodesh!.

As watchman we need to continue to proclaim, as we stand firm in our faith, that in Yeshua we are more than overcomers. This victory is not to be defended it is to be enforced in faith as we partake in God’s ultimate creation plan, to create in Himself (Yeshua the Messiah) one new man, Jew and gentle, who will live not in accordance to the flesh but by the Spirit of yhe Living God.

Consider Ezekiel 37:1-10 With the hand of ADONAI upon me, ADONAI carried me out by his Spirit and set me down in the middle of the valley, and it was full of bones. He had me pass by all around them- there were so many bones laying in the valley, and they were so dry! He asked me, “Human being, can these bones live?” I answered, “Adonai ELOHIM! Only you know that!” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones! Say to them, ‘Dry bones! Hear what ADONAI has to say! To these bones Adonai ELOHIM says,” I will make breath enter you, and you will live. I will attach ligaments to you, make flesh grow on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you. You will live, and you will know that I am ADONAI. “‘” So I prophesied as ordered; and while I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound; it was the bones coming together, each bone in its proper place. As I watched, ligaments grew on them, flesh appeared and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them. Next he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath! Prophesy, human being! Say to the breath that Adonai ELOHIM says, ‘Come from the four winds, breath; and breathe on these slain, so that they can live.'” So I prophesied as ordered, and the breath came into them, and they were alive! They stood up on their feet, a huge army.

 Based on Ezekiel 37, the order of being a watchman is simple, yet effective :

  • First, acknowledge that you do not know, but that God knows all things.
  • Second, listen en proclaim what you have heard from God.
  • Third, trust in the fulfilment of the Word you spoke in faith as you received it form God, proclaim it in the authority of the name above all names, Yeshua the Messiah. In whom it is written in 2 Corinthians 1:19-20 For the Son of God, the Messiah Yeshua, who was proclaimed among you through us- that is, through me and Sila and Timothy- was not a yes- and- no man; on the contrary, with him it is always “Yes!” For however many promises God has made, they all find their “Yes” in connection with him; that is why it is through him that we say the “Amen” when we give glory to God.

The problem is not with the victory that God achieved through His only Son Yeshua the Messiah, the problem is the uninvolved believer, who do not want to proclaim the victory because of the sacrifice and inconvenience it requires. Consequently the “church“ has lost its power to attack, we have become like Gideon before God called him, we believe but we are not prepared to go in the might of what we believe as we trust in God to do what only He can do. Gideon’s plan was to save a part of the harvest, God’s plan was to save the whole harvest, and to set the people free from the continues attacks on the harvest.

Consider this :

In ADAMS disobedience to God his status as royalty over God’s creation was lost and he became a bond-slave on Satan’s terms. But in accordance to God’s redemptive plan the seed of the woman, whom God promised would crush the head of the serpent. Yeshua was conceived not by the corruptible seed of Adam, but from God as a new creation undefiled by the lust of the flesh to fulfill what God’s spoke in the garden of Eden. The Son of Man, Yeshua came to recreate in Himself one new man that will crush the head of the enemy.

Yeshua attained the victory on the cross, so that we as recreated man can do the good work that God planned from the beginning, to crush the head of the enemy. The implementation of this victory on earth is now in die hands of the “Church”, so Satan is directing his attack against the Church, like in Gideon’s example. Satan wants to rob the full effect of the finished work of Yeshua, by stealing or corrupting the Good seed sown by Yeshua.

We as believers are no longer free to live as if there is no war. We need to understand the scripture of 2Ti 2:4 No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.

As believers in Yeshua we need to ask some serious questions.

1) Am I expressing the enmity that God put between the devil and the Body of Messiah? Or am I seeking peace through compromise?

2) Am I available to my Lord as an instrument, ready to be used in reconciliation?

3) Am I aware of the teaching of Scripture about my part in this spiritual conflict?

The battle of Calvary was won on the praying fields of Gethsemane. Yeshua won the battle with only one sentenced prayer, “not My will be done, but Thy will be done.” (Matt 26:42) Like wise as warriors of substance we must pray not in accordance with our own will, but as Yeshua taught us in Matthew 6:10. “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as in heaven.”

Paul said in Romans 11 that is we have been blessed by the disobedience of our Jewish brothers, how much more will we be blessed in their obedience. I believe that Paul is telling us that as we received the deliverance in Yeshua as a blessing. We will receive the victory when, Jew and gentile is finally united in Yeshua, the one new man to bring God’s plan in fulfilment. Their obedience will herald in the final victory over the enemy.

Therefore if you are willing, consider the meaning of the Word spoken in James 4:7 Therefore, submit to God. Moreover, take a stand against the Adversary, and he will flee from you.

Yeshua came to breakdown the wall of enmity between Jew and gentile to unite in Himself one new man who will crush the enemy as we are united in Yeshua the Messiah. We must be warriors in the situation, seeking not our own plans but seeking what God planned so that the victory of the cross will bring glory to God and His Son Yeshua the Messiah.

Being a Watchman

Let’s consider being watchman for our communities/Israel on account of the commission we received from Elohim in accordance to Isaiah 62:1-12

For Tziyon’s sake I will not be silent,

for Yerushalayim’s sake I will not rest,

until her vindication shines out brightly

and her salvation like a blazing torch.

The nations will see your vindication

and all kings your glory.

Then you will be called by a new name

which ADONAI himself will pronounce.

You will be a glorious crown in the hand of ADONAI,

a royal diadem held by your God.

You will no longer be spoken of as ‘Azuvah [Abandoned]

or your land be spoken of as’ Sh’mamah [Desolate];

rather, you will be called Heftzi- Vah [My- Delight- Is- In- Her]

and your land Be’ulah [Married].

For ADONAI delights in you,

and your land will be married-

as a young man marries a young woman,

your sons will marry you;

as a bridegroom rejoices over the bride,

your God will rejoice over you.

I have posted watchmen

on your walls, Yerushalayim;

they will never fall silent,

neither by day nor by night.

You who call on ADONAI,

give yourselves no rest;

and give him no rest till he restores Yerushalayim

and makes it a praise on earth.

ADONAI has sworn by his right hand

and by his mighty arm:

“Never again will I give your grain

to your enemies as food;

nor will strangers drink your wine,

for which you worked so hard;

but those who harvest the grain will eat it

with praises to ADONAI;

those who gathered the wine will drink it

in the courtyards of my sanctuary.”

Go on through, go on through the gates,

clear the way for the people!

Build up a highway, build it up!

Clear away the stones!

Raise a banner for the peoples!

ADONAI has proclaimed to the end of the earth,

“Say to the daughter of Tziyon,

‘Here, your Salvation is coming!

Here, his reward is with him,

and his recompense is before him.'”

They will call them The Holy People,

The Redeemed of ADONAI.

You will be called D’rushah [Sought- After],

‘Ir Lo Ne’ezvah Ne’ezvah [City- No- Longer- Abandoned].

To understand the commission of Isaiah 62, we need to understand, that it is a prophetic word for these days, the time of Israel’s return to the promised land. So that God’s plan for His people (community), the people of Israel/community will come to pass. As written in Isaiah 62 that the vindication of Israel/community will seen by the nations and kings, for it will shine out brightly and her salvation will be like a blazing torch. At that time Israel/community will be a glorious crown in the hand of ADONAI, a royal diadem held by your God. Israel/community will be called Heftzi- Vah [My- Delight- Is- In- Her] and the land Be’ulah [Married]. For ADONAI delights in Israel.

But for the mentioned to come to pass, God raised up watchman over Israel/community that will never fall silent, neither by day nor by night. The the Word of Elohim spoken through His prophet Isaiah identified the watchman as those who call on ADONAI, till He restores Yerushalayim/your community and makes it a praise on earth. These watchman have been commissioned in verse 10, with a command.

Go on through, go on through the gates,

clear the way for the people!

Build up a highway, build it up!

Clear away the stones!

Raise a banner for the peoples!

First command – Go through, go on through the gates :

Based on the identity of the watchman, “those who call on ADONAI”. The gates they have to go through is the gates that keep them from doing what ADONAI called them to do.

A lot of people who call on ADONAI is not watchmen, because they stay within the comfort of their city, their protection or beliefs that contradict the call of Elohim. As watchmen we can not be emotional about the call of Elohim, we must only consider the call and our obedience to the mentioned command to go through these gates that hold us back from the call of Elohim.

These gates can represent fear from criticism, rejection and so on. These gates can be the comfort of a lifestyle that keep you from being released as a watchman. These gates can be a stronghold of belief that contradict the call of being a watchman over Israel. A lot of time these fears, comfort and strongholds are based on an affiliation that as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:3-7 is based on the associations we have formed and the standard we live by.

For you are still worldly! Isn’t it obvious from all the jealousy and quarrelling among you that you are worldly and living by merely human standards? For when one says, “I follow Sha’ul” and another, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you being merely human? After all, what is Apollos? What is Sha’ul? Only servants through whom you came to trust. Indeed, it was the Lord who brought you to trust through one of us or through another. I planted the seed, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. So neither the planter nor the waterer is anything, only God who makes things grow- planter and waterer are the same. However, each will be rewarded according to his work

Second command – Clear the way for the people. Build up a highway, build it up!

John the Baptist was send as prophesied to prepared the way for the people by telling them to repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand. The watchman of Isaiah 62 as prophesied is call to stand in the gap for Israel, building up a spiritual highway as mentioned in Isaiah 35:8 A highway will be there, a way, called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not pass over it, but it will be for those whom he guides- fools will not stray along it.

This highway is a highway built in the Spirit, as a way by which ADONAI can guide His people unto Himself. It is a hedge to protect them until their Salvation has been revealed. As prophesied give Him no rest till He restores Yerushalayim and makes it a praise on earth.

Third command – Clear away the stones!

As watchman we are called to repent for the people of Israel so that there will be nothing standing in their way to receive the promised Salvation in Yeshua the Messiah.

We are called to breakdown down any spiritual barrier that stand between them and their Salvation, as John said in 1 John5:16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he will ask; and God will give him life for those whose sinning does not lead to death. There is sin that does lead to death; I am not saying he should pray about that.

Israel is our brothers and we must pray that ADONAI will show mercy as we received mercy.

Fourth command – Raise a banner for the peoples!

Raise a banner for the peoples! : A man once said that if he could see the Messianic community the Bible talk about, he would become a believer in Yeshua! The standard by which we live must proclaim our trust in Yeshua the Messiah. As we raise up a standard within our own lives, people must be able to follow as Paul said “follow me as I follow Yeshua”.

As the song says “let my walk speak loud and my words be true, let my life-song sing to You!”

As we prepare a way for the people of ADONAI, let us lift up the banner of the Messiah’s love as a standard over the people of Israel.

The Plumb Line

Some churches try to accredit themselves to be the true church based on an argument of apostolic succession.

Yeshua and His apostles warned that false teachers will arise, and it is apparent from some of the New Testament epistles that these apostles had to fight against false teachers from early on. How can we then identify the true church, as all confess to use the Bible. The “true church” is determined by comparing their teaching and practices to that of the New Testament church, as recorded in the Bible. This plumb line for determining truth is emphasised by Paul in Galatians 1:8-9, in which Paul states, “But even if we- or, for that matter, an angel from heaven!- were to announce to you some so- called “Good News” contrary to the Good News we did announce to you, let him be under a curse forever! We said it before, and I say it again:if anyone announces “Good News” contrary to what you received, let him be under a curse forever. Confirming that, the basis for determining truth from error is not based upon WHO is teaching it, “we or an angel from heaven,” but whether it is the same gospel that have been taught by the apostles of Yeshua the Messiah within the 1st century church.

The “first church” is the church that is recorded in the New Testament, especially in the Book of Acts and the Epistles. The New Testament church is the “original church” and the “one true church.” We can know this because it is described, in great detail, in Scripture. The church, as recorded in the New Testament, is God’s pattern and foundation for His church. The New Testament records the history of the church from approximately A.D. 30 to approximately A.D. 90.

When considering that the new testament Church or the Church of Acts, only had the Old Testament, as the writings of the apostles only developed over time. In Acts 15, we find that the apostles (Church) had a meeting to discuss the same predicament, as there was peoples teaching a Gospel that contradicted the Good News they received from Yeshua the Messiah. The result of the mentioned meeting was a letter to help the new believers in Yeshua to be able to follow in accordance to the truth the apostles received from Yeshua the Messiah. They wrote this letter as a guide to the new believers in Yeshua the Messiah, the mentioned letter is also known as the “the teaching of the twelve apostles to the nations” also called the Dictache (from dictate – instructions). The apostles where commissioned by Yeshua, to make disciples and teach them to obey His every command, and thus start the new testament “church”.  The teaching of the twelve, is consistent with the teaching of our Lord, Yeshua within the Gospels.

Based upon the findings of most scholars the teaching of the twelve is an early 1st century document, which is consistent with the belief that it is the letter referred to in Acts 15. The Bible refer only to a few sentences concerning the letter, in the same way the Bible also refer to a number of other books without reciting the whole book (the book of Jude refer to the book of Enoch, although the book of Enoch is not in the Bible). For within Acts 15:13-21 the leader of the first church, known to be James said this Then the whole assembly kept still as they listened to Bar- Nabba and Sha’ul tell what signs and miracles God had done through them among the Gentiles. Ya’akov (James in English) broke the silence to reply. “Brothers,” he said, “hear what I have to say. Shim’on has told in detail what God did when he first began to show his concern for taking from among the Goyim (nations) a people to bear his name. And the words of the Prophets are in complete harmony with this for it is written,” After this, I will return; and I will rebuild the fallen tent of David. I will rebuild its ruins, I will restore it, so that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, that is, all the Goyim who have been called by my name, “ says ADONAI, who is doing these things.’ All this has been known for ages. “Therefore, my opinion is that we should not put obstacles in the way of the Goyim who are turning to God. Instead, we should write them a letter telling them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from fornication, from what is strangled and from blood. For from the earliest times, Moshe has had in every city those who proclaim him, with his words being read in the synagogues every Shabbat

We found the teaching of the twelve a true Apostolic document, summarising the teaching of Yeshua and amplifying the critical aspects of a practical lifestyle. It is a practical guide to believers of Yeshua within their fellowship, especially in these days where the enemy is sowing corrupt seed amongst the good seed sown by Yeshua. For this reason the Upper Room Fellowship will use the Apostolic teaching of the twelve apostles as they were commissioned by Yeshua as a plumb line for the truth.
